I hope all our readers had a wonderful and Merry Christmas.  This week in Nintendo Download, this is one of the smallest releases I have seen in quite a while.  The Wii U is taking a holiday break this week.  There are only eight titles available today with two of them on the 3DS.  Time to jump in!

The Switch releases this week offer some unique titles both new and old.  There is SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition, ACA NEOGEO The King of Fighters ’96, Arcade Archives VS. SUPER MARIO BROS., Guns, Gore and Cannoli, and Woodle Tree Adventures.  You can also get a demo of Mighty Gunvolt Burst.  3DS also gets a demo of Mighty Gunvolt Burst.  In addition, you can also get Style Savvy: Styling Star.  Please note that all the links to the game pages were broken, so nearly every title has a TBA for the price.  Consult the eShop for the official price and additional information.

As always, the full release list is below, along with the prices (in the US), just below the screenshots. If you plan on downloading any of these games, let us know in the comments!

Nintendo released the original Splatoon to criticism about its lack of content. Splatoon 2, released to criticism about its lack of content. But how is Splatoon 2 now? The game now has 62 weapons, 14 stages with 2 more on the way. A brand new mode, Clam Blitz. Unfortunately the biggest issues this game has created, still haven’t been addressed in subsequent patches since then.

Weapons and abilities are still being exploited in matches. The recently added Squeezer just adds to the problems and can be easily exploited base on its usage with external apparatuses (turbo features). Swim speed and run speed exploits are rampant in league and they make the game completely unfair as they take advantage of a persons connection to the other player. I do understand a lot of these issues can stem from having a bad day. But these are concerns of mine and they are very clear . Nintendo needs to do a better job with balancing weapons and abilities. I have well over 600 hours between both games and am saying this; The first game was much more balanced in terms of weapons, secondaries and abilities. I have even went as far to create a massive spreadsheet showing just basic weapon stats. Some of the weakest weapons in the game are some of the biggest offenders. When snipers were given the ability to hold their charge and splatlings weren’t, I already knew we were dealing with devs who didn’t know a lot about the shooter genre.

Before anyone cries foul and...

A delightful Zelda-like adventure game, Blossom Tales The Sleeping King,  is coming to Nintendo Switch on December 19th. Featuring a vast open world this 2D top down adventure will usher in a little link to the past. Check out the full press release below and included screenshots. A delightful mix of “Zelda” and “Princess Bride”, Blossom Tales’ narrative will unfold in the form of a fable being passed down from grandfather to grandchildren. Unable to resist their adorable plea, the old storyteller weaves a tale in which Lily, a heroic girl becomes one of the esteemed Knights of the Rose. However, that same day the evil wizard Crocus places the King into an everlasting sleep with one of his dreaded spells, forcing Lily to go on a grand quest in search of a remedy. Drawing inspiration from the beloved top-down adventure games we grew up with, Blossom Tales is a refreshing combination of classic Action-RPG gameplay and modern design. Players can expect a one-of-a-kind experience as they explore hand-crafted dungeons. The young Lily and her brother Chrys will also keep players on their toes by occasionally introducing enemies, story events, and more as they help their Grandpa tell the tale. Featuring a vibrant world to get lost in, challenging quests to complete, and memorable characters to meet,...

Last night were the annual Game Awards, the award show for all of us fans of gaming and fun. Before I get into the winners and all of that stuff, I have to say I really enjoyed this year’s Game Awards, a lot more than most years. It could have something to do with the amazing Nintendo presence, but I really enjoyed it this year. I wanted to write about the amazing night Nintendo had of winning the Game Awards.

Nintendo Nominations and Winners

After looking back at the list of nominations for this years Game Awards I noticed Nintendo was nominated in about 12 different categories with multiple nominations in that category. They had something like 26 nominations including two games represented in the “Game of the Year” category.

Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were their heavy hitters. They had all 5 nominations in the “Handheld Category” with Metroid: Samus Returns as the winner for that category. There was a sprinkling of games like Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, all of which are Nintendo Switch exclusives.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was the winner of the Best Strategy Game category, and Super Mario Odyssey won the category of Best Family Game. Then steps up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which took home gold as the “Best Action/Adventure Game,” “Best Game Direction,” and the big prize of the night: “Game of the Year.”

Game of the Year

We all knew it had to come down to Super Mario Odyssey, and The...

I grew up playing with LEGO, and I love the idea of creating from nothing. This idea started to become a new genre of game entirely with popular titles like Minecraft dominating the scene. Therefore, LEGO Worlds seems like a no-brainer to join that genre. After all, it is LEGO, and creating is what they are all about. All other LEGO video games are more adventure-based with a theme rather than just creating.

Although this game is largely based on discovering and creating, there is a story in LEGO Worlds called Adventure mode, and most of it serves as a tutorial for how to do things later on in the game. It is not until you get all the pieces of your creation tool does the game really open up. You are still tasked with finding gold bricks and performing certain tasks for people in order to progress the game, but instead of it being a linear level, it is an open world of things to discover and create to complete tasks. After receiving all of the different pieces to the creation tool, I did feel a little overwhelmed with all that I could do at that point of the game. Some tasks, later on, were a little more difficult to understand which pulled me out of the experience some. I got to a place where I didn’t really care about the missions and I just wanted to discover and create. Although, I will say the landscapes and biomes that you explore are fun....

From Drinkbox Studios, the company that brought us the gem of Guacamelee comes Severed, a game that surprised us when it was released in the Nintendo Switch eShop. Although this game has been released on a variety of systems, such as the Wii U, 3DS, and Vita, is it worth buying on the Nintendo Switch?

As you begin, you find yourself in a mysterious world and playing as Sasha, a young lady that has lost one of her arms and her family. Your goal is to find out what has happened. After an interesting looking monster-thing gives you a sword, you are off into the gameplay. On your journey, you meet a few different characters. My biggest complaint is these characters are only on the screen for a short period of time. There really isn’t much character development, which disappoints me. I felt like I was battling things and searching around for almost no reason.

Severed is also impossible to play on your TV screen, because it relies entirely on the use of the touchscreen. You move your character through different screens, but in order to battle, you must use your finger to swipe at enemies. The challenge amps up in some battles; although, I will say it gets a little tiring. The design of the game has you holding your switch in one hand and using...

The 3DS eShop goes on holiday for final Thursday of November.  I do not think anyone minds, as the Switch lineup continues to expand.  Tomorrow, we see the anticipated launch of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.  Let’s see what else is in store for us today!

The Switch’s high-quality monthly title will be available tomorrow, December 1, and it is none other than Xenoblade Chronicles 2.  Not only that, but you can get already pre-purchase the DLC that will be released next fall with a new story.  You can also enjoy the original Japanese voiceovers with English subtitles if that interests you.  If you are looking for a few games on December 5, be sure to check out Nine Parchments and Caveman Warriors.  If you needed something to play today there’s OPUS: The Day We Found Earth, Arcade Archives Traverse USA, Serial Cleaner, ACA NEOGEO WORLD HEROES, Syberia 2, MUJO, and Star Ghost.

The Wii U manages to get a few new games with Draw a Stickman: EPIC 2, BATTLE LODE RUNNER, and Bomberman ’93 being available today.  You can also check out My Nintendo for lots of holiday-themed rewards.  If you are not interested in new 3DS themes or device wallpapers, there’s even the Nindie Game Gold Points Rewards Vol. 2 which allows you to trade in gold coins for a download code for particular games.  That’s not all, as Fire Emblem Heroes got...

LA Noire is a dark and gritty crime thriller set in the backdrop of 1940s Los Angeles. You take control of Cole Phelps, a former marine officer turned cop and eventually detective through the consistent efforts and hard work. L.A. Noire features the use of advanced motion scan technology of its time to accurately depict facial expressions of real life actors during scenes. In the updated re-release of the game, specifically for the Nintendo Switch, it features a resolution of 1080p docked and 720p undocked. The Switch version also uses HD rumble, and gyro controls and while undocked you can use the touchscreen. It has all the DLC and a few extras for the re-release.

To say I like this game is putting it lightly. I absolutely adore everything about L.A. Noire. The first Rockstar Game’s title since Bully: Scholarship Edition on Wii, on Nintendo platforms. The first game of its time to use such advanced technology and its one of the first few games I bought DLC for day one. I played the game originally on the PlayStation 3, then later on PC, now on Nintendo Switch. The game itself is a very solid port with a single noticeable change. There are a couple hitches with the Nintendo Switch version, but they don’t distract from the overall game. Unfortunately, the features outside of HD rumble and portable mode, seem kind of rushed and feel awkward to use. Graphically it doesn’t appear to have all the major enhancements, but it...

If you love Splatoon 2 as much as me, you will be excited to hear this game is just about to get even better thanks to its two free updates coming out very soon.

The first update will roll out November 23rd and adds a new stage for Salmon Run, new gear, new hairstyles for your Inkling, as well as other features that fix several problems with gameplay.

Four New Battle Stages: Yes, you read that right, four! Although they won’t all be available right at the time of updating. They will be spread out throughout the following weeks. We are getting two brand new maps, Mako Mart, which is a giant superstore-style stage on Nov. 24. What better place to go splatting on Black Friday than a store. Shellendorf Institute, which looks like a museum-like stage, as well as two returning maps from Splatoon, Walleye Warehouse (which was one of my favorites in Splatoon), and Arowana Mall, will all be released over the next few weeks.

New Salmon Run Stage: One of my favorite things to do in Splatoon 2 is to play Salmon Run and on Nov 23rd Salmonoid Smokeyard, will be added to the rotation of maps. Another map for those of us who enjoy the teamwork aspect of stealing eggs from Salmon in Splatoon 2.

New Gear: Approximately 140 pieces of gear are being added to Splatoon 2. New shoes, headgear, and clothes so you can be the freshest looking Inkling in Inkopolis. There will even be some winter gear, just in time for the cold weather.

New Hairstyles: We are getting four...
